Hyde Square Task Force / Blog

It all began in 1991. . . (We’re turning 25!)

angled-photos-v4-with-datesHyde Square Task Force formed in the late 1980s in reaction to critical needs facing Hyde/Jackson Square at that time. Mobilization of residents, political attention, and resources soon followed. From the beginning, HSTF realized that youth are central to community transformation.
Incorporated as a nonprofit in 1991, HSTF has developed a nationally recognized youth community development model. HSTF has focused on comprehensive youth programs, amplifying youth voice, and youth-led organizing campaigns. Through these campaigns, our youth have influenced City Hall, the State House, and the Boston School Committee for changes in health, education, business development, and youth employment policies.
This is an important year for us. HSTF is celebrating 25 years of transforming youth and transforming community! Our work has been made possible by donors and supporters like you. As our sphere of influence broadens, we remain committed to Hyde/Jackson Square. HSTF believes in the continued enhancement of Boston’s Latin Quarter. As part of this work, this summer we offered 30+ free community events for families, children and youth.
Our programs continue to be youth-centered. HSTF’s programs focus on the arts, community development, civic engagement, and college/career readiness and success. HSTF youth spend countless hours mastering Afro-Latin music, theater, and dance, developing leadership skills, and planning for their future.
This month, as we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we are joined by 100 new and returning youth leaders. Like their predecessors, they will transform themselves and work to transform the community around them. We hope you join us in this transformation.
Will you make a donation today? Every dollar makes a difference in the lives of young people, their future and the community!
