Coalition to Educate, Mobilize, and Vote! (CEMV)
A coalition to increase electoral, political, and civic participation among youth and adults in our community
In the Hyde/Jackson Square community, civic engagement and voting are methods used to ensure that the needs of local residents are met by the local, city, and state government. The Coalition to Educate, Mobilize, and Vote! (CEMV) has been working to increase civic participation, political understanding, and local voter turnout since 2001. CEMV is a collaboration between youth, adults, and staff of the Hyde Square Task Force and the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation. The combined efforts of these organizations have resulted in the rapid growth of civic participation in our neighborhood.
Through a variety of community outreach strategies, including neighborhood door-knocking initiatives, phone banking, candidate forums and educational workshops, CEMV helps local residents register to vote, participate in civic life, and vote in elections. CEMV supporters also provide the community with alerts of upcoming elections, the content of ballot questions and information on ALL candidates. Since its inception, CEMV has dramatically increased local voter turnout in city and state elections.
In 2004, CEMV received a “Good City Civic Leadership Award” from the Boston Foundation
