A Summer Evening of Youth Dance, Hip-Hop and Rap

Great Photo-Op for  POSITIVE Boston Summer Youth Activity

On Wednesday, August 3, the Hyde Square Task Force will hold an “Evening in Mozart Park” to celebrate the talents and diversity of local youth. The event will take place between 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Mozart Park, located at the corner of Centre and Mozart Streets in the Hyde/Jackson Square area of Jamaica Plain. (RAIN DATE IS THURSDAY, AUGUST 4)

At the park, youth of all ages will be performing Latin Dance, Hip-Hop, Break-Dancing, Rap, and Martial Arts. Among the groups that will be performing are: Ritmo en Acción of the Hyde Square Task Force, Youth from the Hyde Square Task Force’s youth-led Summer Dance Camp, the Bromley Heath Cheerleaders, dancers from ROCA, and other local dance groups.

Brenda Rodriguez-Andujar of the Hyde Square Task Force, a coordinator of the event, stated that: “Mozart Park continues to be notorious for youth-gang activity and drugs, but activities like Evenings in Mozart sends a strong message about all the positive activities of our urban youth. We want to put our youth up on stage to show the community their talent and passion.”

In addition to showcasing local youth, the Hyde Square Task Force and other community groups will be celebrating two major recent community victories in the neighborhood related to development: the recent announcement by Mayor Menino of the $200 million Jackson Square Development and also the Blessed Sacrament Church.

Mayor Menino is scheduled to attend the event that will also feature food, music, children’s activities, refreshments and a book give-a-way for children and parents.
