Task Force youth present staff from the Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center an award in recognition of our new and vibrant collaboration.
2005 Annual Meeting a Success!
On June 9th, the Hyde Square Task Force held its Annual Meeting outdoors at the Kennedy Elementary School. Nearly 500 youth, family & community members came together for this spirited event, which featured original spoken word, hip-hop and dance performances by Task Force participants from our after school programs for elementary and middle school students and our teen leadership programs.
Family and community attendees voted in our Board of Directors, which includes several new participants as well as many veteran members. In addition, the Task Force recognized two of its most valuable community partnerships: Principal Eileen Morales of the Kennedy Elementary School, where the Task Force has operated after school programs for more than 10 years; and Tom Keiffer and the staff at the Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center, who have helped to develop one of the Task Force’s newest programs, the Health Careers Ambassadors Project, or H-CAP, a health careers internship program where teens work alongside health professionals at different neighborhood clinics.
The Annual Meeting featured an international menu with generous donations by the families of our youth. In addition, donations from several area businesses helped contribute to the success of the event:
Alex's Chimis
Amir’s Caterers
Bella Luna
Captain Nemo's
Crystal Café
Stop & Shop
Ideal Cafe & Pizza
JP Licks
Miami Restaurant
Yely's Coffee shop
We would also like to recognize the help of the many volunteers who helped to set up and staff the meeting.
