PLEASE JOIN US at a
Public Meeting of the Boston Redevelopment Authority this Wednesday,
February 9th at 6:30 at Roxbury Community College, 1234 Columbus Ave.,
Building #4 Cafeteria 2nd Floor, for the public review of two proposals
for the development of Jackson Square. Jackson
Square Partners, a partnership of the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development
Corporation, Urban Edge,
and The Hyde Square Task Force, will present our recently-completed
proposal, as will Mitchell Properties Development Team. The
public is invited to review the proposals, ask questions, and give
their opinions. The Hyde Square
Task Force invites all of our friends to attend, learn about
this development, and support the Partners for Jackson proposal, which
has grown out of a broad-based community planning initiative that has
involved hundreds of area residents in determining the development
priorities for Jackson Square. For more information, call Jesús
at (617) 524-8303 x304 or email jesus@hydesquare.org
Highlights: THREE KINGS MESSAGE OF PEACE: On January 5th, 2005, Youth Community Organizers from
the Hyde Square Task Force in Jamaica Plain brought a Three Kings
message of peace to commuters at Jackson Square T Station in Jamaica
Plain. Dressed in in regal attire, teens greeted hundreds of
afternoon commuters at the Jackson Square Station with candy, books for
younger children, and orange buttons proclaiming their message of “Peace on Board the T”. YOUTH SCORE ANTI-SMOKING VICTORY:
On December
8th, 2004, the Boston City Council passed tough new legislation that
would revoke the licenses of stores selling cigarettes and other
tobacco products to minors. The new law passed thanks to the
vigorous advocacy efforts of the Boston
Anti-Tobacco Advocacy & Policy Coalition, or BTAP, a group of teens from Sociedad Latina , the Hyde
Square Task Force, & the Whittier
Street Health Center.
ANNUAL APPEAL A SUCCESS: Over the past month we have received donations from more than 100 individual donors CHECK. With amounts ranging from $10 to $500 (and one extraordinary contribution of $2500!), we raised over $8000 UPDATE in our annual year-end appeal. This support helps us run our programs and also demonstrate our strong base of community support to our corporate, government and foundation funders. THANK YOU!
