Job Description: College Success Coordinator
The Hyde Square Task Force is an award-winning youth development organization. Through high-quality arts, academic, and leadership programming, HSTF serves over 1000 youth in the Hyde-Jackson Square area of Jamaica Plain and Roxbury. Our mission is to develop the skills of youth and their families so that they are empowered to enhance their own lives and build a strong, safe, and vibrant urban community.
The College Success Coordinator work as an integral member in implementing activities of the Paths to College and Careers Program, specifically the activities pertaining to post-secondary education completion. College Success Coordinator oversees successful transition into post-secondary education and successful completion of their college degrees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES
College Success Coordinator will oversee various existing activities, including, but not limited to:
Student Recruitment and Management: Work with program staff and other community partners in recruiting and orienting eligible students to program; and design and implement appropriate activities with other staff to encourage students’ successful college transition and completion.
Transitional Staff Management: Recruit, train and support a team of part-time transitional coaches to implement daily transitional responsibilities; work with coaches to identify students who are struggling and provide appropriate and timely interventions; oversee the performance of the transitional coaches and provide necessary guidance to ensure success; and provide on-going professional development to the coaches
Transition Support Implementation: Oversee all transitional support activities provided by the transitional coaches and help develop necessary curricular that encourage college success of students; and build and maintain positive and meaningful relationships with all necessary stakeholders, including colleges, families, and community partners to create a web of support in the transition process.
Success Boston Initiative: Represent the Hyde Square Task Force in initiative-wide meetings and events; fulfill all required data request from the Initiative; work with the Program Director in determining the strategic goals pertaining to the initiative; and participate and support initiative-wide fundraisers.
MISTER: work with 30 young men between the ages of 14 to 18 in designing and delivering workshops and activities that support the positive development and growth of the participants.
He/she will also support the organization and other staff in organizational needs and events.
Qualifications
An ideal candidate has a minimum of 2 years of professional experience working with inner-city teens of color in a community setting. He/she is a self-motivator and a team player. He/she can manage and complete multiple tasks/projects successfully, and possesses the ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). He/she must be a hard worker and knows how to motivate and lead others. Finally, he/she is willing to do more than what is required of him/her, and knowledge in college and career advising is a must. He/she must be deadline and benchmark driven, and work well under pressure. Bilingual/Bicultural strongly preferred.
